Southern Tour Success!

Claire Gober '12, Tour Manager

This March, the Chorus headed south for a ten-day tour of Oklahoma, Texas, and Louisiana. In addition to polishing our repertoire, we were also able to share our music with many wonderful new communities, all while bonding as a group (and enjoying some great food!) along the way.

We kicked off our tour with a concert at B’nai Emunah Synagogue in Tulsa, Oklahoma and two church services at All Souls Episcopal Church in Oklahoma City. We then headed to Fort Worth, where we were greeted by Chorus alumnae (and former tour manager!) Marguerite Shaffer ’10 and were given a personal tour of historic Fort Worth. In Dallas, the Chorus performed a joint concert with the Women’s Chorus of Dallas to a very enthusiastic full house. We had the pleasure of doing several outreach activities while in Austin, including a workshop with the choir of Vista Ridge High School and joint number with the Austin Girls Choir in an evening concert.

The next day of our tour was spent in Houston, where we were warmly received by the members of West University United Methodist Church. The final stop on our tour was in New Orleans. In addition to giving a workshop at Andrew Jackson Middle School, the Cornell Chorus was featured at Trinity Episcopal’s Fifteenth Annual Bach Around the Clock festival.

We feel extremely lucky to have been so warmly received by both audience members and host families alike while on this tour. The Chorus is thrilled to have finally visited this area of the country, and we hope to return soon!
